The University of Alabama football program's Class of 2017 received a significant boost Monday evening, via the commitment from perhaps the most heralded prep prospect ever from Hawaii.

Four-star dual-threat quarterback prospect Tua Tagovailoa from Honolulu committed to continue his academic pursuits and football career at the Capstone.  His commitment was the ninth for the Tide's 2017 class.

In making his announcement,  the 6-foot-1, 210-pound Tagovailoa, ranked as the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the nation, said that Tuscaloosa felt like home after visiting there and said he also liked the spiritual atmosphere there.

He visited Tuscaloosa recently, and Tagovailoa ultimately opted for the Crimson Tide program over Auburn, Arizona, Ole Miss, UCLA and Hawaii among others. He joins Blake Barnett and Jalen Hurts in terms of recent dual-threat quarterbacks that have been recruited to Nick Saban's Alabama program.

Tagovailoa, who plays for Saint Louis High School, the same high school that former Heisman Trophy winner and current Tennessee Titan quarterback Marcus Mariota played for, threw for 2,583 yards and 33 touchdowns and only three interceptions and rushed for 576 yards as a prep junior last season.

According to Scout.com, he is the fifth best quarterback in the country for the 2017 class and the No. 43 recruit overall.
